Start with the event’s purpose
A social afternoon, a club championship and an ongoing ladder need different plans. Decide whether your priority is several matches for everyone, a championship final, or competition spread over several weeks. Set singles or fixed doubles teams, eligibility, registration deadlines and a clear withdrawal policy before taking entries.
Choose the draw before promising match counts
Eight singles players in one round robin require 28 matches. A single-elimination draw with eight players needs seven matches to decide a champion, but a player who loses immediately gets only one match. Two groups of four, with the top two from each group reaching semifinals, require 15 matches including the final. A third-place match adds one more.
Use our format comparison to decide between participation and a shorter title race. For a Community competition without a fixed event day, consider an Open Ladder and explain challenge and score-review expectations to members.
Budget court time around the scoring format
Courtira offers tennis scoring options including short or full sets, an 8-game pro set and supported match-tiebreaker options. Choose a format that fits the event rather than assuming every match will take the same time. Check the generated draw and scoring configuration before publishing player instructions.
For example, 15 matches at an assumed 45 minutes each represent 675 court-minutes. Across three courts, that is a 225-minute capacity minimum. It is not a workable finish-time guarantee: later rounds depend on earlier results, players need rest, and match lengths vary. Keep buffer time and a plan for unfinished matches.
Separate responsibilities
Name one person to own the draw and resolve questions. Decide who can enter scores or update courts and times. Review results before progressing the event, especially when a correction could change qualification or the next opponent. Agree on how players should report a disagreement instead of changing a result without context.
Prepare for delays
Share check-in instructions, warmup expectations and where schedules will be updated. If weather or court availability changes, communicate the new plan through one official channel. Courtira Community announcements can keep members informed; mobile push delivery depends on preferences and device permissions.
Keep the competition useful after the final
Confirm the final results, recognize the winners and share where players can revisit the event. A recurring Community gives members a home for tournaments, rankings, trophies and announcements between events.
Explore Courtira’s Community tools and plan limits before opening registration. Members can join a Community for free; the organizer chooses the plan that fits the group.
