Tournament planning

An eight-team pickleball round robin, planned.

Eight fixed teams mean 16 players, 28 matches and seven matches per team. Here is a complete numbered example you can use to plan the session.

Set fixed teams before you label the draw

Number the teams 1–8 and keep each pair together for the event. The schedule below is a fixed-team round robin, not a rotating-partner format. Each team meets each of the other seven exactly once. Write down the team-to-number list and give every player access before the first round.

Four courts: one wave per round

With four courts, all eight teams play in every round. At an assumed 20 minutes per match, seven rounds use 140 minutes of playing time. Adding a five-minute gap between rounds gives a 170-minute playing window. Add check-in, warmups and longer breaks separately. Games won by two can overrun, so treat this as a planning scenario rather than a guaranteed finish.

Two courts: split every round into two waves

Play Courts 1–2 from the table first, then use the same two courts for the matches listed under Courts 3–4. Keep the next round waiting until both waves finish. With 14 waves at 20 minutes and five-minute gaps between waves, the playing window is 345 minutes: five hours and 45 minutes. This deliberately simple round-based plan does not optimize every entrant’s rest gap.

Choose the scoring before sending invitations

Courtira offers single pickleball games to 11, 15 or 21, or best of three games to 11, won by two. Ask whether seven matches per team suits your group and booking. If the estimated window is too long, reduce the field or consider groups followed by knockouts rather than promising a full round robin you cannot finish.

Record results at the end of each match

Tell teams who records the score and how corrections are raised. Check that each round’s results are complete before announcing standings. In Courtira, choose pickleball, doubles and round robin, add your players or teams, then review the generated event draw and assign courts and times. Its team order may differ from this planning example.
